Travel/Getting there

Regardless of your mode of travel, eventually you want to reach Bochum Hauptbahnhof (Bochum Central Station), located in the City Center of Bochum, within walking distance of most major hotels, and 10 minutes by subway from Ruhr-University Campus.

Detailled maps how to reach the Canpus and of the Campus can be found here:

https://www.ruhr-uni-bochum.de/anreise/service_en.html

By plane:

  • Düsseldorf Airport is by far the nearest international airport (45 km from Bochum), offering direct flights to all major European destinations, and even some intercontinental flights. There is excellent public transport from Düsseldorf Flughafen Railway Station to Bochum, with local trains operating frequently day and night. It takes less than one hour to get from the airport to Bochum Central Station.
  • Köln-Bonn Airport (85 km from Bochum) serves mostly low-cost airlines. The airport has good connections by local train to Bochum; travel time is about two hours.
  • Frankfurt Airport is the major international airport in Germany, serving all major international airlines, and offering direct flights to most countries in the world. From Frankfurt Flughafen Fernbahnhof, you can get by ICE train within two to three hours to Bochum. Try to get a Rail-and-Fly ticket when booking your plane ticket, because the regular fare for the trains is quite high (120 EUR each way).
  • Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is also quite close to Bochum, about the same distance as Frankfurt (240 km). However, trains from Schiphol to Bochum run less frequently than from Frankfurt and require more stopovers. The travel time is three to four hours.

By car:

The Ruhr University Bochum is very well signposted on the street signs coming from all directions. Entering the RUB the parking garages are signposted as well. Drive to garage P9. This is the Closest to the Audimax / Mensa.

By train:

If you live in Europe, consider environment-friendly travel by train. From many places in Central Europe, Bochum can be reached several times a day with one or two stopovers, or even by direct train. Some examples of travel times:
