The Bernoulli-IMS 11th World Congress in Probability and Statistics will be held on the campus of Ruhr University Bochum. The Ruhr University campus can easily be reached by subway from Bochum city center and from the Bochum central railway station. Travel time on the U35 is 10 minutes, with trains operating very frequently from early morning until midnight.
On Monday evening, there will be a welcome reception in the foyer of the Audimax. On Wednesday evening, the conference dinner will take place in the Mensa of Ruhr-University Bochum.
All participants of the World Congress will receive a ticket that allows them the unlimited and free use of local public transport in the Ruhr Area (VRR Preisstufe D). This includes regional trains (RE, RB, RRX), commuter rail (S-Bahn), subways, trams and buses in the region. Note that the ticket is not valid on long-distance trains such as the white ICE and IC trains.
A map of the region where the ticket is valid can be found here:
https://www.vrr.de/de/tickets-tarife/tarifgebiete-regionen-preisstufen/
Included is the airport in Düsseldorf so that participants can travel for free from the airport to Bochum.
The ticket will be valid from Sunday, 11 August 2024, to Saturday, 17 August 2024.
Warm meals for lunch can be obtained from any of the three self-service University restaurants on campus. By far the largest of these is the University Mensa, located right next to the Audimax, that offers a large variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. In the same building, one floor above the Mensa, is the ”Rote Bete” restaurant that offers exclusively vegan food. A short walk from the Audimax is the Q-West restaurant that serves Pizza, Pasta, and other dishes. All of these restaurants offer excellent food at very moderate prices, ranging from 4 to 7 euros for the main course. The Q-West is also open in the evenings (until 22:00), then with a different menu that offers bistro style food.
Downtown Bochum has a large variety of restaurants offer-ing local and international cuisine within walking distance from Bochum Hauptbahnhof. The highest concentration of pubs and restaurants is in the Bermuda Dreieck, the famous nightlife district of Bochum that draws folks of all ages from Bochum and neighboring towns.
